Week #9 - Thing #23

I have several favorite discoveries: Exploring Flickr, discovering Mashups, having fun with the image generators, accessing new tools like delicious, and using podcasts for training.
23 Things has helped my lifelong learning goals by revealing to me tools, resources, and training, plus I now know where to find them!

Week #9 - Thing #22

I checked out Overdrive, NetLibrary, and Project Gutenburg. I love audio books and find it easiest just to get what's available at the libraries I visit, so taking the time to download a book just may not happen. As for reading books on the computer, I much prefer reading a book in print. Was wondering if our county provides/will be providing an oppportunity/link to these sites for the patrons.

Week #9 - Thing # 21

I discovered some search tools for locating podcast. I like the Podcast.net the most. Yahoo Podcast seemed slow. I plan to learn Photoshop tips using the podcasts training tutorials in Podcast.net.

Week # 9 - Thing # 20

You Tube - I discovered You Tube awhile back. It's a good place to go for lots of laughs.

Week # 8 - Thing # 19

Web 2.0 Awards Nominee: I've bookmarked this page for further exporation. I recognize several but am definitely intereseted in discovering all these resource tools.

Week # 8 - Thing # 18

Online Tools:
Google Docs:
Here's a quick spreadsheet I will use to track distribution of brochures.

Week # 7, Thing # 17

Sandbox Wiki: Finally figured out how to add my blog to the list of Favorites.

Week #7 - Thing # 16

Wikis: I like how the Princeton Public Library uses the Bokk Lovers Wiki to allow patrons to post reviews on books.
I've added the URL http://instructionwiki.org/Library_2.0_in_15_minutes_a_day_Bibliography
to my favorites (and Delicious) to have as a resource for later.

Week #6 - Thing #15

The Machine is Us/ing Us is an eye opening jolt of tech reality.
In reading Mr. Anderson's Away From the Icebergs it sounds like he's ready to jump ship and discount actual books. When browsing for non-fiction books in our small libraries I find our collection too small, because contrary to what he says, the information, the DETAILS of a subject CANNOT always be found on the internet, but can be found in a book that I have to order ILL. Further, when reading a fiction , who wants to burn their eyes out on a computer, when you can curl up in a cozy chair?

Week #6 - Thing #14

I discovered Technorati and learned how tags work with blogs. I'll keep this resource in mind for when I need to do some serious researching and I'll register when I'm ready at that time.

Week #6 - Thing #13

Tagging & Exploring Del.icio.us - I definitely will use this tool. Excellent because I can access it from any computer and not ever lose my favorites again!

Week #5 - Thing #12

I checked out Rollyo but have declined creating an account. I do find it to be a very useful tool in searching for websites on specific topics, websites that I would not have found otherwise. In the future, I may create a account for genealogy purposes, recommending sites for Western Maryland Genealogy.

Week #5 - Thing #11

I explored LibraryThing and cataloged some of my books. I will suggest this site to my church as they are about to launch a library catalog of the books they have available. This is a great tool!

Week #5 - Thing #10

Well, my Genealogy idea is out the window.
I played around with some generators. I created a Sneaks cereal and Warholized Sneaks in his car. In the Harry Potter Character geneator I was placed in Ravenclaw. The generator was annoying because you had to click thru (skip button) about 10 signup for stuff pages. The Meez Avator is cool, lots to choose from.

Week # 4 - Thing #9

I revisited Merlin, but this time signed up for an account. Lots to explore: Learning Links, Web 2.0 Resources, etc. Looks like several resources will be experienced later in 23 Things. Maybe when I visit Trends & Cool Stuff I will find a "Time Warper" that allows me to warp the several hours of exploring into"15 Minutes" :).

Week # 4 - Thing 8 - RSS Feeds

I've been using RSS Feeds (news stuff) for so long I forgot my password! It was a refresher when I got back in. I love RSS Feeds because the readily available information is current! I have the mesages sent to my email so it is great. I learned that you can get RSS feeds from individual's blog (family and friends).

Week # 3 - Things 5, 6, & 7

Wow! What an explosion of information and technology. Flickr is a big place to explore with all its links. The Mashups seem like a cut-n-paste of databases. These new services are really cool. Now to find the time to play with them :). I did play and make a trading card using a photo from the Summer Reading Club. It took me awhile but I did finally figure out how to post from Flickr to this blog.

Week # 2: Blogger

Moving along here. Now I have two blogs I am apart of in my learning journey. South Cumberland Blog.

Week # 1: Lifelong Learning Habits

Which is the easiest and a hardest of the 7½ lifelong learning habits for me? The easiest habit is Habit # 2 - Accept Responsibility For Your Own Learning. I find that this Habit is a close partner to Habit # 7 1/2. I find an inherit fun quality to learning new things, of course, when it's subjects that interest me!
There is an overwhelming amount of new technology to assimilate. For this reason, I find Habit # 6 - Use Technology to Your Advantage most difficult habit. I can't learn it all fast enough. I know if I could have the time to be exposed to it and learn so much of it , then my production of stuff would be greater and quicker!
I have chosen the theme of Local Genealogy to be a part of my learning journey in Learning 2.0.
